Ron Evans Bursary

In 2006 District Governor Boyd Sangster decided that the Lions club could be doing more to support Portage Atlantic Youth Treatment Centre. His club of the Nashwaaksis Lions Club, home of Huggy Bear with the motto, ”Try hugs not drugs” had long been supportive of the Portage Atlantic Youth Treatment Centre. District Governor Boyd approached a local business man, a Nashwaaksis lions Club member, Ron Evans, to see if he would allow his name to stand on a bursary for graduates of Portage Atlantic to further their post-secondary education upon completion of their drug rehabilitation program. Lion Ron Evans, a board member of Portage Atlantic, agreed. With a launch of the bursary at the Nashwaaksis Lions club, the idea became a reality. The fund has continued to grow with financial contributions from the Lions in District N1. To date seventeen graduates from Portage Atlantic have been recipients of the bursary. With the continued growth of the fund, it is hoped that it will become a self-sufficient bursary to enable recipients to be productive citizens in our society.

Donations gratefully accepted by cheque to McAdam Lions Club, 165 Saunders Road, McAdam with memo to Ron Evans Bursary.
